Rayman Forever:

Introduction:

Rayman, crafted and released by Ubi Soft, stands as an inaugural installment in the Rayman series, presenting a side-scrolling platform video game. The game's initial launch transpired in September 1995, encompassing platforms like MS-DOS, Windows, Atari Jaguar, Sega Saturn, and Sony PlayStation.Players take command of Rayman, a heroic figure tasked with reinstating equilibrium to a vibrant world under the shadow of the malevolent Mr. Dark.

This game has made appearances across various formats, including adaptations for platforms such as the Game Boy Advance, PlayStation Network, DSiWare, as well as iOS and Android devices. Notably, mobile versions of Rayman were withdrawn from digital stores in July 2018. On October 29, 2018, Sony unveiled that the game would be among the pre-loaded titles on the PlayStation Classic, which was officially launched on December 3, 2018. Despite initial intentions, versions compatible with the 3DO Interactive Multiplayer, Sega 32X, and Super Nintendo Entertainment System were ultimately abandoned.

Rayman embarks on a side-scrolling platform journey, with the player steering the titular character through six distinctive worlds, namely The Dream Forest, Band Land, Blue Mountains, Picture City, The Caves of Skops, and Candy Château. Each level conceals six cages holding caged Electoons, necessitating their liberation to pave the way for Rayman's confrontation with Mr. Dark in his lair at Candy Château. Divided into several segments, each level concludes upon Rayman's arrival at the "!" sign. Players are allotted a finite number of lives, subject to reduction when Rayman sustains hits or meets watery or precipitous perils. Exhausting all lives leads to the "Game Over" screen, offering the choice to continue or quit.

Distributed throughout the levels are glinting blue spheres known as Tings. Collecting 100 Tings (50 in the DSi version) earns an extra life, while losing a life forfeits any collected Tings. Tings also serve as currency for the Magician, a character enabling entry to bonus stages, potentially rewarding an extra life. The "telescopic fist" ability, acquired early on, empowers Rayman to punch enemies from a distance, with most foes succumbing after a set number of punches. Each world culminates in a showdown with a boss enemy.

Five Key Features of the Game:

  1. Captivating World Exploration: 'Rayman' offers players a vivid and varied world to explore through its captivating side-scrolling platforming mechanics.
  2. Progressive Abilities: As the game unfolds, Rayman gains a series of distinctive abilities and power-ups, enhancing gameplay and enabling new strategies.
  3. Challenging Boss Encounters: Each world concludes with an intense boss battle, demanding strategic prowess and skillful execution from players.
  4. Collectibles and Bonuses: The game integrates collectible Tings and a variety of power-ups, enriching the gameplay experience and encouraging thorough exploration.
  5. Compelling Narrative: 'Rayman' weaves an engaging narrative of heroism, restoration, and triumph against the forces of darkness, driving player engagement and immersion.

Final Worlds:

Rayman's genesis is attributed to French video game designer Michel Ancel, who collaborated with programmer Frédéric Houde and artist Alexandra Steible to refine the character's definitive appearance.Ancel's earliest Rayman concepts date back to the 1980s when he was a teenager, passionately pursuing skills in drawing, music composition, and coding to fulfill his aspiration of creating video games. Formal development of Rayman prompted Ancel to revisit his initial sketches, fleshing out the game's universe and characters. His sources of inspiration encompassed Celtic, Chinese, and Russian folktales, as well as personal recollections from his youth spent exploring riverbanks and nature's mysteries. The game's inception revolved around "strange creatures" and arboreal elements, with Ancel's exploration of ray tracing computer graphics techniques influencing Rayman's visual design. Originally, Ancel conceived a narrative involving Jimmy, a human boy who ventured into a virtual realm, later inhabited by Rayman, to thwart a computer virus. This concept was ultimately discarded during subsequent development phases.

By 1988, French video game publisher Ubi Soft, founded by the Guillemot family, had grown significantly and established a presence in Montreuil, a suburb of Paris. Michel Ancel was among the early talents recruited by Ubi Soft due to his exceptional animation skills. Encouraged by Yves Guillemot, Ancel, along with Houde and designer Serge Hascoët, presented their evolving Rayman concept to the Guillemot family. Ancel and Houde's creative collaboration led to distinct designs, including a whimsical "giant trombone" concept, and an animation system that impressed with its fluidity. Despite the project's preliminary nature, Hascoët advocated for its progression to full-fledged development, a sentiment echoed by Michel Guillemot. The formal greenlight for Rayman in 1992 marked a transformative phase for the project. Recognizing the need for expanded resources, Michel Guillemot restructured the company, infusing finances and allocating a budget of 15 million francs for the game. Development operations bifurcated, with automated tasks conducted in Paris, while Ancel, Houde, and their design team operated from their facility outside Montpellier, responsible for artistic endeavors. Originally established in 1994 as Ubi Pictures, this studio would eventually evolve into Ubisoft Montpellier.
